Joe on the Tiger 1050
Key points:
-
Go/no-go decision is Wednesday 19-April - after this accommodation will be charged.
-
Meeting point is Wild Bean cafe at BP Popham Services on the A303 at 7am.
Outstanding decisions:
-
Do we want to use comms on the bikes? David has a pair, Joe has a single Sena but doesn't connect with David's; so no good for three riders.

The Route: day 1 - 400m/9hrs
1. London to Basingstoke - 1 hour, 43 miles: Dave and Jo leave Walton on Thames at 6am for a blast down the motorway to Basingstoke, meeting Neil at BP Popham Services on the A303. There is a Starbucks that opens at 7am and the BP Wild Bean cafe is 24hr. Chocks away from here at 7:30am, so have those tanks full and bladders empty.
2. Basingstoke to Gillingham - 1.5 hours, 58 miles: Head down the A303, but turn south on the A338 before Stonehenge to avoid the snarl-ups. Go across Cranborne Chase on the A30, aiming to get to The Old Brewery Cafe and Kitchen for opening time of 9am for breakfast. There is a motorcycle collection here to peruse over.
3. Gillingham to Crediton - 2 hours, 78 miles: Take the A303 and A30 across the Blackdown Hills, turning right at Honiton and head cross-country to avoid Exeter towards Tiverton, then southwest on the A396 for a coffee/lunch stop at Union Road Moto Velo. Alternatively push on to Dartmore for lunch.
4. Crediton to Dartmore - 45min, 19 miles: Head down the B3212 to Dartmore (some sealed single track), stopping at Warren House Inn for a break, maybe some lunch if haven't eaten already.
5. Dartmore to Liskeard - 1 hour, 36 miles: Continue west across Dartmore and stop at Chequered Flag for a break and to check out the bikes. No need to ride all the way down to Lower Clicker as per Google maps, there is a right turn just south of Chequered Flag where we can do a U-turn.

Decision Time!! We have a few options here for the last leg, depending on how people feel and what the want to do.
6a. Liskeard to Land's End - 1.5 hours, 70 miles: B-Line it to Land's End via the A30. Note; we practically go past the accommodation for the night so there are options to check in and dump the bags, or even stop for the day. Its another 45 min, 24 miles to Land's End from the accommodation.
6b. Liskeard to Lizard Point to Land's End - 2 hours, 100 miles: Lizard Point is the southern most point of mainland United Kingdom, option to swing by on our way to the most western point. Or we can nip down here on Sunday morning.

Options for making our way to the accommodation, straight back or the coastal route:
7a. Land's End to Camborne - 40 min, 24 miles: Straight back up the A30.
7b. Land's End to Camborne via the coast - 1 hour, 31 miles: Head north along the B3306.
Accommodation
Stay at the Tyacks Hotel in Camborne which has parking, restaurant, bar and pool table. There is a disco until midnight. There are also additional pubs close by including a Weatherspoons.
Rooms are £77, breakfast included, free cancellation before 19 April 2023. Three double rooms have been booked, requested quietest rooms available, with parking.
The Route: day 2 - 290m/7hr
A few options here depending on rise and shine time/body condition; either the scenic northern route as above, taking in the north coast of Cornwall, head down to Lizard Point - the southern most point of mainland UK, or B-line it straight home for 236m/4.5hr.
1a. North Coast of Cornwall - 7 hours, 288 miles: Take the high road along the Cornish north coast and Exmoor National Park.
1b. Lizard Point - 6 hours, 300 miles: Head to the southern most point of mainland UK, then B-line it home on the A30 and A303.
1c. Lizard Point with a ferry crossing - 6 hour 45 min, 300 miles: After visiting Lizard Point we could take the back roads and take the King Harry ferry between Feock and Philleigh before joining the A30 for a B-line home.
Considerations:
-
There's a cray looking place called the Leather & Lace Bar & Grill on the way that could be a good place for lunch.
-
At 3pm the government will be testing the mobile phone emergancy alert test - 10 seconds of sound and vibration is to test a new emergency alerts system - might be worth getting off the road for this as every driver in the country will be checking their phones and freaking out!!!
